Three women were awarded titles in the Miss Grand Forks Scholarship Pageant, making them eligible to compete for the Miss North Dakota crown to be awarded next June in Williston, N.D.
- Kate Wilson of Rochester, Minn., was crowned Miss Grand Forks 2012. Wilson, a UND student, had a pageant platform about leadership through literacy and her talent was Irish clogging.
- Stephanie Erickson of Fargo was crowned Miss Empire 2012. A student at North Dakota State University, her platform was about youth involvement and her talent was a contemporary piano solo.
- Laura Harmon of Grand Forks was crowned Miss Eastern Dakota 2012. Harmon is a UND student, her platform was about renewable energy, and her talent was an operatic solo.
First runner-up was Megan Yahna of Larimore, N.D., who also won the Kristen’s Bridal High Score Evening Gown award. Abby McCauley of Grand Forks was second runner-up and also Miss Congeniality.
Other awards: Miss Photogenic, Kate Wilson; Z94.7’s People’s Choice Award, Kayla Wiese; and 2012 Miracle Maker Award, Kayla Wiese for raising the most money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the national cause of the Miss America organization.
Caroline Brost, executive director of Miss Grand Forks, said the organization was hitting the ground running, preparing its titleholders for the state pageant and working with fitness and nutrition sponsors, Snap Fitness and Complete Nutrition.
The Miss Grand Forks Scholarship Organization is a not-for-profit group that produces an annual competition where young women from throughout North Dakota can compete for three titles. The organization also works with each titleholder throughout the year to provide community service, public speaking, and performance opportunities.

The pageant is also currently seeking teen contestants between the ages of 14 and 17, up to a junior in high school, and from either Minnesota or North Dakota, for an upcoming competition.
