What is a "Platform"? The Miss America Organization provides its teen and miss contestants the opportunity to champion a personal cause, or platform, throughout their invovlement with the program and in which they speak about and work with as a local or state representative. A platform issue can be any relevant social issue such as volunteering, mentoring, bullying prevention and awareness, organ and tissue donation, confidence in young women, etc.

What is a "Platform Statement"? Each teen and miss contestant is required to write a one page long statement describing their platform, why they chose it, why it's important to them, and any ideas or plans they have to implement their platform's message throughout their year as a local or state titleholder in the Miss America Organization. At the local level, judges are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a connection to her platform issue, and potential. The amount of work you've done with your platform issue is not as important as your ability to communicate the key points of your platform's message. You are not required to have any volunteer experience with your platform.
